Taxi Driver (1976)

Travis Bickle is an ex-Marine and Vietnam veteran who now drives a cab in New York City. But he feels like an outsider who is disgusted about the ugliness of life and the corruption around him, how dirty the city is and how much he wants to change it. He tries to seek affection from a campaign worker named Betsy, but it doesn't go too well when he ends up taking her to see an adult film. Things turn worse when he fails to persuade a child prostitute named Iris to go back home to her parents. So out of rage and desperation he buys four handguns and sets out to assassinate the Senator. One of the best films of the seventies; violent, disturbing and powerful. DeNiro gives an intense and chillingly dark performance. Starring Robert DeNiro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepard, Albert Brooks, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle 8/10
