Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)

Buffy Summers has a great life; shopping with her friends, cheer-leading, and dating the captain of the basketball team. But she has no idea that she is "the chosen one", the slayer of vampires. Until a man named Merrick approaches her one day and tells her that it is her calling. Buffy of course doesn't take it seriously; all she wants to do is graduate from high school, go to Europe, marry Christian Slater, and die. But once strange things start to happen does she start to realize it's true; and figures out that the dreams she's been having is also part of it. While training to be a slayer, she abandons her friends, and becomes friends with Pike, who also suspects that something weird is going on in the town. Together they set out on a mission to defeat the vampires and Lothos, the Vampire King that wants to turn Buffy into one. Fun movie; Kristy Swanson is terrific and memorable in the title role.
