Towelhead (2007)

Jasira Maroun is a beautiful thirteen-year-old Lebanese-American girl, who is sent to live with her father Rifat in Texas after her mother's boyfriend volunteers to shave her. But her new life isn't easy; her father won't allow her be a normal teenager, won't let her wear makeup, shave or use tampons, and she is teased in school because of her background. After she and her father meet their neighbors, The Vuoso's, Jasira babysits their son, Zach and becomes attracted to his father Travis. But she likes to be with fellow classmate Thomas Bradley and becomes sexually active with him. It isn't until her female neighbor Melina becomes concerned about Jasira hanging around with Travis does she find out that he raped her. A disturbing and controversial drama, at times funny but mostly extremely uncomfortable to watch. Everyone gives terrific performances; especially newcomer Summer Bashil who is convincingly believable, and Aaron Eckhart who in spite of his character being an absolute sleaze you still find him weirdly charming. Starring Aaron Eckhart, Toni Collette, Maria Bello, Peter MacDissi, Summer Bishil 7/10
