Throw Momma from the Train (1987)

Larry Donner is an author and professor who teaches people who want to write. He is divorced and frustrated because his ex-wife stole his idea and her book is now a best seller. Owen Lift is one of Larry's students who has an overbearing mother and has fantasies of getting rid of her. So when Larry tells Owen to go see Hitchcock films to understand how to write a suspenseful story, he goes to see Strangers on a Train and comes up with an idea of swapping murders just like they do in the movie; Owen will bump off Larry's wife if Larry kills Owen's mother. Of course Larry thinks it's a joke but when his ex-wife falls overboard and vanishes in the sea, Larry becomes the suspect in her disappearance. A hilarious black comedy; Crystal and Devito are terrific. Starring Danny DeVito, Billy Crystal, Kim Greist, Rob Reiner 7/10
